October Offerings 🤲

This month we’ve been a little obsessed with aerospace and flying - because who wouldn’t be?! :person_shrugging: It’s been all the more relevant with our Precision Grip Kickstarter officially passing the £1 million mark; they’re flying off the metaphorical shelves! There wasn’t really a link there but we made it happen .

In a more related vein, we love us some aerospace grade metals. In fact, it’s pretty much all we use! Here’s a little look into some of the materials that make up your MetMo:

Aluminium alloy 7075-T651

7075 = ultra-high strength

T-651 = specific heat-treatment and stress-relieving process

Primary aerospace applications:

  • Commercial aircraft upper wing skins and wing stringers
  • Compression-critical structural members and keel beams
  • Fuselage and tail components requiring high strength-to-weight ratios

In simple terms, this thing has an insane strength-to-weight ratio!

Grade 5 titanium

AKA the most popular titanium alloy. It combines high strength, low weight, and great corrosion resistance.

Key aerospace applications:

  • Jet engine components
  • Airframe structures & brackets: employed in high-stress structural parts, bulkheads and wing attachments
  • Landing gear where high fatigue resistance and impact toughness are critical

420 Stainless Steel - can harden - versatile

Martensitic, magnetic, and harden-able.

Key aerospace applications:

  • High stress or wear- resistant engine components
  • Control mechanisms & valves
  • On-board tools and equipment

What’s your go to? Are you a titanium titan or an aluminium avenger?

MetMo Sphere

As our beloved CubeClubbers, we strive to give you the latest news and unseen footage. This means you get the first look at what’s to come, including our next MetMo! MetMo Sphere, is set to launch via pre-order on November 5th straight to our website. From then, on expect an increase in ball puns by the MetMo team (we can only apologise).

Here’s a peak at our chief machine master, Geoff, machining the first prototype!

News on the shop floor

Helico Heading out the Door

It’s time to fulfil the first wave of Helico MK3s and they’re heading out the door! The next available wave for these is December, so if you want your Helico for Christmas now’s the time to order :santa_claus:.

Hot Stuff

Over on our Kickstarter campaign things are heating up :fire:. We combined the steel adaptor with our new ceramic tips.

We thought we’d record us having a play with the testing on this so you can see it and us in action. We went in at the extreme end with a blowtorch under the assumption that, if it was ok with that, soldering and smaller heat tasks wouldn’t be a problem! You can watch us try to melt a Precision Grip below.

Overall these tips have surpassed our expectations. We even used the aluminium handle that has the best thermal conductivity and it still resulted in very minimal heat transference.

The Unexplained and Spooky

With Halloween just around the corner, it felt right to sprinkle a little spooky into this month’s update. We’ve decided to go for a spooky space story! Aerospace → space → Halloween → spooky stories → spooky space story!
